An ATMI Regional Conference was held at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville February 13-15, 2014. The ATMI Regional Conference was held concurrently with the regional conferences of the College Music Society (CMS) Southern and Mid-Atlantic Chapters. Though ATMI currently has no specific “regions,” this effort – like CMS regional meetings – hoped to provide further opportunities for members to present their research, here at a smaller, on-campus gathering.
In addition to papers, panels, demonstrations, training sessions/workshops, and electronic poster sessions, the conference given included several concerts of pieces composed by members of CMS. One highlight of the conference was the performance of the winning compositions of the Doc Severinsen International Composition Contest by jazz trumpeters Allen Vizzutti, Vince DiMartino, and Gabe DiMartino.
